Scifi and romance? You betcha
1001 Ways to Promote Science Fiction Romance
A three five part post by Heather at the Galaxy Express, with tips on writing and marketing this subgenre.
[Heads up from DA, one of my favourite blogs]
Science pics
Nothing, I just like the drawing.
Oh, alright. Those are fungal spores and the pic is gacked from this post. Isn’t it fabulous? Reminds me of drawings in encyclopaedias I read as a kid.
e-searches leave carbon foorprints
I did not know that internet searches sucked up so much resources. I mean, I know that electronic products costs the environment to make but searches? Those onscreen links to queries? Surely those are just algorithms and pixels. But no.
According to this article from Times Online, “Performing two Google searches from a desktop computer can generate about the same amount of carbon dioxide as boiling a kettle for a cup of tea“. Oh dear, guess how I found the link to the article.
NB: The Story of Stuff from Annie Leonard is a simple, graphical illustration of how much we consume when we think we don’t have enough. Essential viewing. (er, you’ll need speedy broadband)
Hot on court
I know it’s summer and tennis is one of our top sports at this time of year (the other is Cricket). I’m usually immune to babes in bikinis and summer bods on show, but by golly, Samantha Stosur‘s new physique had me squirming in my seat today.
We were at the opening day of the Medibank International Sydney Tennis tournament, out in Olympic Park. I was glad we got the mid-tier seats as it was v warm in the sun but we were in the shade with a good breeze at our backs (comfort is so important, don’t you know). Sam Stosur came close to beating Serena Williams but she choked at the crucial moments. The game had good suspense and many faults, but it was Sam’s bod that kept my eyes glued to the court. I didn’t really care about the game.

Wish I had a good shot of her incredibly defined and developed upper back, shoulders and arms – damn phone camera – but it, I mean she, was yummy. Legs too.
Leslit & art folio from the Philippines
A reader from the Philippines sent me this link to a recent lesbian lit production: Lunduyan ng Sining (What these hands can do) Lesbian Literary and Art Folio. Looks very spiffy.
This is good stuff. I’d love to hear more about lesbian lit from all over, especially from independent lesbian groups/writers/artistes/non-mainstream genre fickers.
So send me your lesbian lit news and I’ll blog about it.
100th post!
Whee! A milestone of postarific blogginess. I didn’t realise I had blahhed that much until I saw the numbers. Go me!
To celebrate, let’s all head to Baen’s Free Library which has a web-subcription service for it’s ebooks. Now you can pick up a truckload of spec fic for free, and for a few dollars more, buy other books.
I love all these freebies. My iPhone is filled with spec-fic ebooks that I got for free. I can’t keep up, and I’m not even spec fic fan usually. I needs me other genres soon.
Book plug: Green-Eyed Monster by Gill McKnight
I think this year will see me posting more about stories/books. I’ll try to keep it to only lesbian fics but that depends on who sends me what news!
So this is the second book by Gill McKnight. I read the beta version online and I can tell ya, it’s a hoot. Very clever shenanigans and mixed-upness that could have fallen into kitsch slapstick but doesn’t. I hope the eds retained GM’s witty and bitchily funny style.

New crockery takes time
The Bushes finally got their new set of state china, 320 pieces, three years after they commissioned it. If Laura only knew Waterford Wedgewood would be placed in receivership this week, she might’ve waited.
