It’s not what you say but where you say it to.
According to this study run in a night club, requests made into the right ear had more success than if made to the left ear. The reasoning being that sounds into the right ear are processed more by the left, and linguistically inclined, side of the brain. The researchers think that talk into the right ear and you send your words into a slightly more amenable part of the brain.
The study did not describe the young lady doing the asking nor whether all the askees were smokers. Nor if they were deaf on the right, or were left-handed or drunk or stoned or…
