Emma Thompson, she of the drool-worthy height and gentle comedy, has struck a blow against modern lingo. Well, it would only be a blow if you disagree with what she say’s here.  So she’s not happy with some lazy ways of speaking. No one with schooling in proper diction ever is. But as the writer goes on to explore the way ‘like’ is used in daily conversation, I totally heard myself, and I’m not a teenager.

Now, whenever I’m tempted to use ‘like’ during chats, I see Emma’s frowning face in my mind. I really don’t like that.
